| Written by Faculty student Tereza Bártová Are you ready to open your mind? May arrives with a sense of acceleration, as if the ground beneath us is shifting inviting us to liberate our thinking, especially where it may have become stuck. Stay with me for guidance on how to work with May’s electric and emotionally charged skies. The month opens with a notable recent shift as Uranus moves from Taurus into Gemini (on 26 April), setting the tone for what follows. A new cycle begins around learning and communication – the way we make sense of the world, including how we work with information in its many forms, from emerging technologies to media and communication networks. Old mental frameworks may begin to feel too slow or outdated, calling for a mental revolution through new ideas, likely accompanied by a sense of restlessness or unpredictability. This invites a question – where would you like to innovate your way of thinking? The very first day of May introduces the Full Moon in Scorpio (on the 1st), bringing depth to the surface. Opposing the Sun in Taurus, it highlights the tension between material security and transformation through deep feeling, asking us to confront what lies beneath what appears stable. Emotional truths may surface with intensity, revealing where dependency has been mistaken for safety, and what has long been suppressed may now call to be released in order to restore the natural flow of life. You may ask yourself – what truly sustains and holds you, even in more challenging times? As Mercury enters Taurus on the 3rd, the pace of thinking may slow, encouraging a more grounded and deliberate approach. Yet this steadiness is quickly tested. On the 5th, Mercury squares Pluto while Mars in Aries squares Jupiter in Cancer, creating a charged atmosphere where words can have profound impact and actions can easily become exaggerated. We may feel compelled to speak or act with urgency, but the steadiness of Mercury in Taurus can help us stay grounded and let our thoughts settle before we speak them out loud. The New Moon in Taurus on the 16th offers a moment of recalibration. Conjunct Mercury in Taurus and in close proximity to Uranus in Gemini, it carries both stability and disruption – a paradox that invites us to plant seeds meant to last while open to change. At the same time, Mars conjunct Chiron at the end of Aries points to sensitive areas around identity, courage, and asserting our own individual goals rather than those of others. Old wounds connected to self-expression, independence, and standing up for ourselves may be activated, asking not for force or immediate action, but for patience and acceptance. The following days bring a quickening of mental energy. Mercury enters Gemini on the 17th and conjuncts Uranus on the 18th, sparking insight, sudden realisations, and unexpected or exiting conversations. This can be a moment of breakthrough thinking, or of nervous overstimulation. What emerges now may not yet be fully formed, but it opens a new line of inquiry. As the Sun enters Gemini on the 21st and immediately conjuncts Uranus on the 22nd, the atmosphere may become more dynamic and unpredictable. A desire for freedom, authenticity, and new experience grows stronger, particularly in how we think, speak, and exchange ideas. At the same time, Venus in Cancer squares Neptune in Aries, softening boundaries and heightening sensitivity in relationships. We may feel drawn to idealise, to protect, or both. Clarity may not be readily available, and this invites a gentler approach – to soften the protective shell we carry in relationships, and to notice what we feel without rushing to define it. The closing days of May carry a more demanding tone. Mars in Taurus squares Pluto in Aquarius on the 26th, intensifying questions of control, will, and direction. Power struggles may arise, externally or internally, revealing where we may be holding on too tightly, unwilling to let go of what is no longer viable, or, quite the opposite, where we may need to stand more firmly in our position. On the 29th, Venus in Cancer squares Saturn in Aries, bringing a sober note to relationships and values. This aspect invites us to take responsibility for what we feel, and to distinguish between reality and sentimental comfort. What is truly emotionally nourishing, and what is simply maintained for the sake of safety or familiarity? It may not feel easy, but it offers clarity, and the possibility of building stability around what is real in our relationships. Themes of the month: A shift in perception and new ways of thinking emerging. Emotional truths surfacing beneath the surface of stability. The tension between holding on and letting go. Moments of insight and disruption opening new paths. Relationships asking for both sensitivity and clear boundaries. |
