FATE AND FREEDOM SERIES

One of the most fundamental existential issues that philosophers, psychologists, theologians, scientists – and of course astrologers – have struggled with over many centuries is the extent to which we have free will to determine the direction of our lives. The modern psychological approach to astrology practised by Faculty-trained astrologers is to focus on empowering the client and giving them a sense of agency over their lives rather than suggesting that the future is in any way ‘fated’ or pre-determined. These two webinars explore some of the fascinating but complex issues around fate and freedom in more detail.

How to respond to the invitation of change – Part 1

📆 When: 3rd October 3pm UK Time
📍 Where: Online (live and recording)
🎓 Tutor: Mark Fountain
💰 Cost: £35 – Click to buy

Astrology students often assume that every transit or other major forecasting factor, such as a progressions or solar arc direction, will inevitably have some obvious and possibly dramatic life-changing effect. But astrologers know from experience that this is not the case. There is surprisingly little discussion among astrologers about the ‘silent transits’, the ones that slip by almost unnoticed or which promise so much but from our rather narrow, egocentric perspective appear to have delivered very little. We can feel rather embarrassed or irritated when – in our opinion – ‘nothing much happened’.

In this webinar, we consider some big questions: Do we have unrealistic expectations of transits and other forecasting factors? Are we placing too much emphasis on external rather than internal events?  Can some transits only be understood retrospectively? We also consider from a technical point of view which type of transits or forecasting factors are most likely to be felt by the individual and why that might be.

Example charts will be presented that illustrate the technical and philosophical points that are being made.

How to respond to the invitation of change – Part 2

📆 When: 7th November 3pm UK Time
📍 Where: Online (live and recording)
🎓 Tutor: Mark Fountain
💰 Cost: £35 – Click to buy

In this webinar we explore the role of an individual in shaping the way transits and other forecasting factors unfold. Can we be too passive in our attitude, expecting the planets to do something for us rather than actively cooperating in a process of change?  How important is it for the astrologer to give the client a sense that they are responsible for their lives and have the power to determine how a transit or other forecasting factor manifests?

And what if someone doesn’t want to participate in the unfolding of a transit? To what extent is the individual free to turn down the invitations to change that transiting planets (and other forecasting factors) give us?  Can someone ever ignore the transpersonal planets and say: ‘thanks but no thanks, not this time’?

As in the first webinar, some unusual but illuminating case histories and examples will be used to illustrate the points that are being made.
