MYTH AND ASTROLOGY SERIES
The Mythological Hermes and Aphrodite
In this second webinar in the series, we continue to discuss the role of mythology in shaping the way we understand the astrological planets.
This webinar focuses on the mythological Hermes and Aphrodite and asks whether their traits are embodied in the modern astrological planets to which they correspond, or whether there are important differences. There is an interesting debate to be had over whether we need to study the stories about these deities in order to understand Mercury and Venus as they are interpreted today.
We may be hugely entertained by the stories about the amoral, cunning and frequently dishonest Hermes. But would we ever dare incorporate the shadowy trickster archetype into our interpretation of Mercury when working with clients?
And can we really say that the Greek Aphrodite was a goddess concerned with noble abstract principles such as balance, peace and harmony? Many of the myths do not show her in such a flattering light. Is the astrological Venus a rather different figure to the Aphrodite we see in myth?
