THE ASTROLOGER’S FORECASTING TOOLKIT SERIES
Forecasting lies at the heart of astrology. Indeed, Richard Tarnas reminded us that ‘astrology is archetypally predictive’, and he emphasised: ‘not concretely predictive’. Our approach here is to discover patterns of meaning rather than a fixed fate. In this series of webinars, we will explore different forecasting techniques to learn how to offer realistic, specific insights without creating deterministic interpretations.
We will reflect on what we mean by ‘an event’ and how this word resonates both with inner and outer experiences. We will not see forecasting techniques as predicting a single outcome, but as describing ongoing processes of development. A psychological approach to forecasting will ask us to be precise and grounded when presenting the material, but at the same time to protect and nourish the client’s sense of agency. We need to be aware of this approach not only when we deliver the information, but also when we study the chart and prepare the astrological material.
This series will interest you if:
- you want to move away from a deterministic approach, yet you want to be able to be specific to what your client will be experiencing
- you want to learn how to prioritise, synthesise and organise the forecasting material
- You would like to develop a psychological approach to forecasting
- You would like to be able to address challenging periods, avoiding unhealthy positivity, yet at the same time, you want to give tools to your clients to work with the quality of time that is allotted to them
- You want to enhance your forecasting techniques
Each webinar in the series is interconnected yet also stands on its own, so you are welcome either to follow the full journey or to join the specific session focused on the technique that most interests you.

Transiting Uranus, Neptune and Pluto
📆 When: 10th October 3pm UK Time
📍 Where: Online (live and recording)
🎓 Tutor: Alejo López
💰 Cost: £35 – Click to buy
Transiting planets are one of the most effective and commonly used forecasting techniques. They are practical because their timing is precise, their influence on the chart is clear, and they can help us both to time and describe different moments in a person’s life. These are also important markers that signal transitions in one’s life. Most of these transits are only experienced once in a lifetime and thus, tremendously meaningful. However, there is sometimes a tendency to treat them in a general way, drifting away from analysing what they could mean in each particular case, in every single chart. They are also often collapsed under one keyword: “change”. But as astrologers, we are asked to describe the different qualities of experience that these so-called changes may bring. Because these planets are always in motion, we also need to discern when the experiences they symbolise are likely to become vivid and eventful, and when they may remain more subtle or latent.
In this webinar, we will explore:
- How to describe and distinguish the different experiences that transiting Uranus, Neptune and Pluto will each bring
- How to organise the information that the transiting planets provide
- How to come up with interpretations that are not “already made” but that focus on each specific chart and client
- How to approach your interpretations from a psychological perspective, avoiding deterministic or fatalistic claims
- How to guide your client in collaborating with these transits, if they want to do so
Solar Returns
📆 When: 24th October 3pm UK Time
📍 Where: Online (live and recording)
🎓 Tutor: Alejo López
💰 Cost: £35 – Click to buy
A Solar Return is more than the chart for your birthday. It’s, if you want, the rebirth of your Sun, a moment in which the sky starts to draw the myth, archetypes and experiences that you will face in that year. A Solar Return reminds us that we have our own personal calendar and our own personal year. Each year, your Sun ventures on a new journey. And thus the Solar Return becomes a kind of omen or oracle for the story that is asking to be lived. Clare Martin, Patron of the Faculty, once described to me the Solar Return Chart as a symbolic message rather than just flat predictions. She said it was an invitation, not a verdict.
In this webinar, we will begin with the tradition of calculating Solar Returns. We will then move to a modern psychological approach that focuses on the process rather than the outcome. We will also look at the importance of place: how it can influence your Solar Return Chart and how much importance should be given to it.
Most of our time, however, will be spent on technique: how to read the Solar Return as a chart in its own right: what are the actors on stage doing this year and what central themes seem to be pointing at. These charts require an understanding that is slightly different from the way of thinking of natal charts because of their ephemeral quality. We will also study how this chart creates a conversation with the natal chart. As with other webinars, we will aim to extract rich, specific information without falling into fatalism. In this way, the Solar Return can also become a tool for agency and self-understanding, rather than a list of fixed events.
In this webinar, we will explore:
- How to read this chart from a psychological perspective
- How to organise the information provided in the Solar Return
- How to understand the core meanings of the chart
- How to study the interaction between the Solar Return Chart and the Natal Chart
Secondary Progressions and Solar Arc Directions
📆 When: 14th November 3pm UK Time
📍 Where: Online (live and recording)
🎓 Tutor: Alejo López
💰 Cost: £35 – Click to buy
Secondary Progressions and Solar Arc directions can give us valuable forecasting information. They describe two different ways in which our chart comes alive. Secondary progressions focus on our inner landscape and the unfolding of an inner potential. They remind us, once again, that our chart is the beginning of our personal, inner calendar. They mark slow changes in mood, identity, and meaning. Solar arc directions, by contrast, often feel more deliberate. Measured through a solar lens, they symbolise our conscious effort to bring particular energies into form through our choices. An external event can provoke inner growth, but deep inner shifts can also rearrange our circumstances.
In this webinar, we will look at the different calculation methods, how to distinguish and interpret each of these techniques and how to comprehend the sense of timing that comes with them.
In this webinar, we will explore:
- how to calculate Secondary Progressions and Solar Arc Directions
- how to interpret and contrast the meanings of each of these techniques
- how to select the relevant material to organise your forecasting session
Integrating the forecastig material
📆 When: 12th December 3pm UK Time
📍 Where: Online (live and recording)
🎓 Tutor: Alejo López
💰 Cost: £35 – Click to buy
We will study how to weave together our interpretations of the different forecasting techniques: transits, solar returns, secondary progressions and solar arc directions. We will review what choices an astrologer must make when organising the material and how to find a common thread among all techniques. We will reflect on the hierarchical differences among these techniques and how to know when to emphasise one over the other. We will also ponder the ethics and care that must be applied when creating forecasting material. We will bring in some ethical considerations and reflect on the meaning of the idea of “event” and how best to describe it psychologically. This is an ideal session for anyone who is familiar with the different forecasting techniques in isolation but struggles to put them together in a coherent form. If you have done the previous three webinars, you will enjoy seeing how all the pieces of the puzzle perfectly fit together.
In this webinar, we will explore how to:
- weave together transits, solar returns, secondary progressions and solar arc directions
- organise forecasting material to find a common thread among several different techniques.
- approach the different role that different forecasting methods have
- decide which technique to highlight at a given time.
- support your client’s sense of agency while also providing forecasting material
