THE LUNAR TRIPTYCH SERIES

The Moon is associated not just with our instinctive responses to life and what makes us feel safe and comfortable, but also symbolizes the past, or specifically our relationship with our own past and our emotional history.

Most of us prefer to focus on the exciting potential of the future, dismissing the past as something that is fixed and immutable, but our feelings about different periods of our lives can change over time. And of course, we all know – whatever our age – that memory itself is notoriously unreliable. Interestingly, there is even scientific evidence to suggest that every time we remember something, we are recreating and reconstructing that memory in a new way.

The webinar focuses on the Moon as a symbol of our relationship with the past and as a symbol of memory. It covers the Moon in the natal chart and the eight lunation types and their distinctive attitudes to the past. We also examine the progressed lunation and progressed Moon cycles from this perspective and show how studying these subtle cycles reflects our changing attitudes to our own personal history, revealing our periodic attempts to revisit the past and to see it in a completely new light.

This seminar will explore:

  • The Moon in relation with our past and as a symbol of memory
  • The eight lunation personality types
  • The progressed lunations
  • The lunation cycles from the perspective of our personal history

One of the most familiar images we associate with the Moon is its representation of three different stages of development: the maiden, the mother and the crone. Some might say that over the centuries the Moon has become overly associated with the middle point of that cycle, with the astrological Moon principally symbolising home, security, safety, comfort, nurturing and parenting.

But what about the earlier and later stages in the cycle? Why are they so neglected?  What about the untamed, instinctive side of the Moon?  Should this be a part of our interpretation of the Moon?

The webinar looks at what lunar goddesses such as Artemis from the Greek pantheon can tell us about the astrological Moon, and how an exploration of her myths and stories could enrich our understanding of the planet.  Some of the qualities of Artemis, such as her wildness, her uncompromising fierceness and independence, are not usually seen as particularly lunar in nature. This webinar explores how we can incorporate some of these ideas into our analysis of the Moon.

This webinar will delve into:

  • Reconsider the Moon’s symbolism beyond comfort and nurturing.
  • Include the maiden and crone phases—embracing instinct, wildness, and wisdom.
  • Draw on lunar myths like Artemis to enrich our interpretation.
  • Integrate fierceness, independence, and untamed qualities into lunar analysis.

Exploring the Moon: Mind, Soul and Imagination

It can come as a surprise to some to learn that in the past, astrologers viewed the Moon as a symbol – along with Mercury – of the mind, though not of course pure intellect, but instead the more instinctual, ‘irrational’ and emotional dimensions of our mental capacities. But this is not a link that is often made today, perhaps because of the popular idea that ‘head and heart’ are polar opposites. Yet this idea of an inner division runs counter to our everyday experience since it’s clear that people’s intellectual processes are often influenced by their feelings, and equally evident that many individuals will rationalise their emotional responses in order not to feel uncomfortable or to be overwhelmed.

And what of the Moon’s traditional association with ‘the soul’? What are we to make of that? It is a word that has been – and can still be – understood in so many different ways.

And finally, we should note that before the discovery of Neptune, the Moon was seen as a symbol of the unbounded potential of the human imagination. Does this still have any validity or meaning today? This wide-ranging webinar explores these less common meanings of the Moon, and covers the Moon / Mercury relationship in the birth chart, the Moon in harmonic charts the Moon in midpoint trees, and transits to the Moon – all of which may lead us to the conclusion that it is a far richer, more fluid and more multi-faceted symbol than we might ever have imagined.

This webinar will delve into:

  • The Many Dimensions of the Moon in Astrology
  • The Moon’s historical role as a symbol of the mind—highlighting not just thoughts, but instinct, emotion, and the interplay of feeling and reason.
  • The Moon’s ancient connection to the soul and what this multifaceted concept means for us today.
  • The Moon’s legacy as a symbol of the limitless imagination, a meaning that predates the discovery of Neptune.
  • Some of the Moon’s deeper astrological connections: the Moon/Mercury relationship in the birth chart, appearances in harmonic charts and midpoint trees
