A Three-Part Seminar Series with Mark Fountain

Faculty of Astrological Studies

9, 16 & 30 May 2026 | 3.00–4.30pm UK | Online | Recording Included

There is a point in every astrologer’s development when they realise the Moon is doing something they haven’t fully accounted for.

Not because they haven’t studied it. But because the Moon, more than almost any other symbol in the chart, resists reduction. It shifts. It layers. And the more closely you examine it, the more you sense there is something just beneath the surface of the familiar interpretations, something that changes the way you read everything else.

This is where Mark Fountain begins.

About This Series

The Lunar Triptych is a focused, three-part exploration of the Moon designed for astrologers who are ready to move beyond keywords and into genuine depth.

Whether you are new to the Faculty or have been studying with us for years, this series will give you a more complete, more nuanced, and more practically applicable understanding of one of astrology’s most fundamental symbols.

For students preparing for Faculty examinations, the material covered here is directly relevant and the way Mark teaches it will sharpen not just your knowledge, but your ability to articulate and apply it.

Why Mark Fountain

Mark has been a tutor and examiner at the Faculty since 2006 and is currently our Head of Exams.

He is known consistently, across every level of student for his ability to take ideas that feel complex or just out of reach, and make them land with immediate clarity. His seminars are among the most attended the Faculty offers. There is a reason people come back.

If you have not yet studied with Mark, this series is an ideal place to begin.

The Series

Seminar 1 — Moon and Memory: Revisiting and Reimagining the Past

THIS SEMINAR HAS ALREADY TAKEN PLACE. YOU WILL RECEIVE A LINK TO ITS RECORDING.

Most of us treat the past as fixed. Something that happened, and is now simply behind us.

But memory, as both psychology and lived experience confirm, is far more fluid than that. Every time we remember something, we are — quite literally — reconstructing it. Our feelings about different periods of our lives shift over time. The past is not as settled as we assume.

The Moon knows this.

This seminar explores the Moon as a symbol of our relationship with personal history not just what happened, but how we carry it, how we revisit it, and how our understanding of it changes across the cycles of a life.

This seminar covers:

  • The Moon in the natal chart as a reflection of personal history
  • The eight lunation types and their distinct orientations to the past
  • Progressed lunations and Moon cycles
  • How changing cycles reveal our periodic attempts to see our own history in a new light

This is not abstract theory. You will recognise what Mark is describing — and you will leave seeing the Moon differently.

Seminar 2 — Moon and Myth: Extending the Lunar Archetype

THIS SEMINAR HAS ALREADY TAKEN PLACE. YOU WILL RECEIVE A LINK TO ITS RECORDING.

The Moon has, over centuries, become somewhat domesticated in astrological interpretation. Home. Comfort. Nurture. Safety.

These meanings are real but they are incomplete.

The fuller lunar cycle encompasses maiden, mother and crone. And it is the first and last of these that tend to get lost. The untamed side of the Moon. The instinctive, independent, uncompromising face that the goddess Artemis embodies — fierce, wild, answerable to no one.

This seminar asks what happens when we bring those qualities back into our interpretation. What does the Moon look like when we stop domesticating it?

This seminar covers:

  • The fuller lunar cycle: maiden, mother and crone
  • Lunar goddesses — particularly Artemis — and what their myths reveal about the Moon’s symbolism
  • The instinctive, independent, less familiar dimensions of lunar interpretation
  • How myth can deepen and extend the way we work with this symbol

Allow yourself to reconsider what you think you already know here. The myth holds more than most people have been taught.

Seminar 3 — Exploring the Moon: Mind, Soul and Imagination

30 May | 3.00–4.30pm

Before Neptune was discovered, the Moon carried the imagination.

It also carried the mind not pure intellect, but the instinctual, emotional, irrational dimensions of mental life that we now struggle to name without separating from thinking altogether. And it carried something older still: the soul.

These are not footnotes in the Moon’s history. They are central to what it symbolises and recovering them changes how you read it in a chart.

This final seminar explores those less commonly discussed meanings, and then applies them practically: the Moon/Mercury relationship in the birth chart, the Moon in harmonic charts and midpoint trees, and transits to the Moon.

This seminar covers:

  • The Moon as a symbol of the mind – instinct, emotion, and the interplay of feeling and reason
  • The Moon’s ancient connection to the soul – what this means and how it applies
  • The Moon as a symbol of imagination, prior to the discovery of Neptune
  • Practical applications: Moon/Mercury in the birth chart, harmonic charts, midpoint trees, and transits

For many students, this is where the Moon finally becomes whole.
