Why not throw a little caution to the wind this Sagittarian season? At the time of writing this, Mercury is moving retrograde in Sagittarius, so I wanted to risk reshuffling the information, and hopefully provide some festive entertainment…
This month I track events from the perspective of three characters in our Cosmic Story: Mercury, Venus and Mars. Experiment with dividing your experience into these three archetypal realms in December.
☿ First, Mercury: the currents of communication, thinking, co-ordinating, and connecting.
December begins with Mercury stationing direct in Scorpio; a little stuck in the mud, he smells something rather potent. The mind considers and broods… but discern where investigation becomes paranoia.
Mercury governs a full moon at 13° Gemini on 4th December. Look to where this falls in your chart for clues about how this will manifest…what information is illuminated for you? What realisations about how you communicate?
On 6th-7th December, Mercury re-enters a watery grand trine with Saturn and Jupiter, just like 24th October and 22nd November. What were you mulling over around those times? Perhaps there’s a need to revisit it. Allow yourself to communicate deeply held feelings with considered sensitivity. It’s a great time to practically formulate your intuitive vision.
On the 10th, Mercury opposes Uranus, then trines a stationing Neptune and enters Sagittarius on the 11th. There may be a shocking piece of news or revelation before a jolly tone comes over our messenger god in Sagittarius, though maybe he’s had a bit too much to drink; whilst imagination soars, try not to lose sight of the facts!
On 30th, Mercury squares Saturn: in the last few days of the year, perhaps thoughts become more sober, but you could use the time to plan and make realistic decisions. It is after all the time for new year resolutions, if that’s your thing!
♀ Now we turn our eyes to delightful Venus: how are we impelled to love, appreciate, desire, attract and beautify in December?
From 30th November until 24th December, Venus joyfully dances through Sagittarius. Christmas decorations may go up in gaudy excess, and gifts are ambitious (if not large, then at least with great meaning attached). In any case, you can be encouraged to express your love generously in this period. Feel optimistic!
On 21st December, the day of the Capricorn solstice, Venus squares Saturn. Venus probably won’t feel so sexy for a few days, but at least she can take pleasure in responsibility towards her loved ones. Try to embrace rather than bemoan your commitments. Any of this month’s excesses of indulgence and desire can be controlled now. If you want to shop sensibly, today’s the day.
On the 24th, Venus squares Neptune shortly before entering Capricorn. Sensitive feelings of devotion and romance may arise, or a yearning for connection. Perhaps you’re seduced by the glamour of the season; just try to remember that all that glitters is not necessarily gold. Venus in Capricorn is smart and sophisticated, and if you celebrate Christmas, this could be nice for quietly enjoying the traditions and family customs.
♂ Last but not least, Mars: doing, asserting, fighting spirit; energy and effectiveness.
We encounter Mars at the beginning of the month mid-flight in Sagittarius. The warrior god here gets things done with a bloody enthusiasm, and a desire for adventure may impel you to take more risks than normal. Any scattered or reckless energy gets put into check by the 8th, when Mars squares Saturn. This can be great for focussing your ambitious energies productively, but you may feel some strain or doubt in the process.
On 14th December, Mars flies into some fog as he squares Neptune. Don’t panic – all you can do is surrender and allow your action to be guided by intuition. On the 15th, Mars parachutes down from his jet, lands safely in Capricorn and begins his ground operation. This can help with a sense of determination and ability to get your work done with practical effectiveness. See your goal and pursue it through to the bitter end.
