The Astro-Weather for May 2025
On the first day of the month, Venus moves into Aries for the second time. Venus in Aries is asking us to refresh and renew our values, and our ideas around those objects and people that bring us pleasure. Its previous journey into Aries (most of February and March) may have given us the opportunity to re-think things, and with Venus now returning to Aries, now is the time to make any changes. Now, with its conjunction to Neptune at 1 degree Aries, we dare to dream, and have the courage to act.
On the 3rd, Pluto stations retrograde, with the Moon highlighting Pluto further by opposition and triggering the separating Mars-Pluto opposition. This might indicate a more tense or sombre mood for a day or two. On the 6th, Venus meets Pluto by supportive sextile, adding depth and intensity to any changes in values or relationships.
Mercury is busy towards the end of the first week, with a sextile to Jupiter on the 5th and then conjoining Chiron on the 7th. Mercury’s sextile to Jupiter in Gemini can help ideas to flow. Chiron in Aries can be about exploring and developing our identity, and so at this time we may feel blessed with fresh insight into our sense of who we are, or can be.
The 12th brings the first lunation of the month – a Full Moon at 22 degrees Scorpio. Scorpio’s co-rulers Mars and Pluto have recently been in a tense stand-off by opposition, and with Pluto now slowly retrograding, it is possible that something that might have been previously hidden now comes out into the open for all to see. There could be an additional emphasis on this lunation bringing to light something that is unexpected – or even shocking – with the Sun conjoining Uranus for this lunation. On the 17th the Sun’s conjunction to Uranus is exact and triggered by a trining Moon, so this could bring some kind of post-script to any Full Moon revelations. On the 18th Mercury squares Mars in fixed signs, which could lead to some tense exchanges with others.
The mood lightens on the 20th with the Sun’s ingress into Gemini. Even the Sun’s trine to Pluto on the 24th doesn’t dampen things too much, more likely adding depth rather than drama.
The 25th brings the much-anticipated ingress of Saturn into Aries. Although it retrogrades back into Pisces in September and doesn’t enter Aries finally until February 2026, this still marks a profound change in the astro-weather, particularly as Neptune has only just preceded Saturn into Aries. Indeed, the tightening conjunction between these 2 planets at zero and one degree Aries will keep us all guessing for a while about the shape of things to come. Saturn, the master teacher meeting Neptune, the master illusionist, just as Saturn thought he had finally got his feet onto dry land, promises to be enthralling, and the dance between these 2 will continue for many months (until March 2026).
We round the month off with a New Moon in Gemini on the 27th, continuing the theme of “new beginnings.”
May is a month full of new beginnings, with Venus and Saturn entering Aries and joining Neptune there which has only just entered a month ago. And while such big players – Saturn and Neptune – indicate that events might unfold on the world stage, we can also all benefit from the energy of fresh starts, and look to see where we might want to ignite, or re-ignite, our own adventurous spirit and explore and deepen our sense of who we are and who we can become.
